Terms of Service

Beta notice. Crowcery is currently in private beta. The service is provided free of charge, without warranties, and may change or be discontinued at any time. Don't rely on it for anything important — for example, don't use it as your only copy of receipts you need for taxes or warranty claims. The OCR and parsing pipeline uses Google's Gemini models via Google Vertex AI; Google may change or withdraw these models, which may cause temporary parsing regressions. See the Privacy Policy for where your data is processed.

1. Who we are

The service is operated by Marton Hever ("we", "us") as an individual based in Nova Scotia, Canada. Contact: support@crowcery.com.

2. What the service does

Crowcery lets you upload photos of grocery receipts and returns structured data — store, date, line items, prices, categories, taxes, totals — extracted using automated OCR and large-language-model parsing. Accuracy is not guaranteed.

3. Your account

You need to sign in to use the service. Keep your credentials safe; you're responsible for activity under your account.
You must be at least 13 years old, and old enough to enter a binding contract in your jurisdiction.
One account per person. Don't share your account or create duplicate accounts to bypass limits.

4. Your responsibilities

By using Crowcery, you agree:

To upload only receipts that are yours to upload. Don't upload other people's receipts, ID documents, medical records, or any content you don't have the right to share.
Not to use the service for anything illegal, fraudulent, or abusive, including tampering with the system, reverse-engineering the API, or generating load intended to harm the service or its users.
That uploaded photos may contain small amounts of personal information on the receipt itself. We redact customer-identifying details (loyalty / account numbers, customer phone, email, or street address) and drop masked payment-card rows before storing anything; the store's own identity (name, address, phone, store number) is stored as part of the receipt data. You should avoid uploading receipts whose appearance you wouldn't be comfortable sharing with a service provider. See the Privacy Policy for details.
That if you contribute a product photo, an approved photo may be shown to other Crowcery users (with your identity removed). Photograph only the product — avoid including people, faces, hands, or personal surroundings in product photos.

5. Intellectual property

You keep ownership of the receipt photos and data you upload. By uploading, you grant us a limited licence to process, store, and display that content back to you so the service works, and to display anonymous price observations (price, purchase date as day only, optional quantity, and the store) derived from your receipt items to other Crowcery users of the same store. These observations carry no user identifier, receipt identifier, or any field that links them to you or to your other purchases; see the Privacy Policy for details.

Product photos you contribute. Crowcery lets you contribute photos of products (for example, the front of a package, its ingredients, or its nutrition label) to build a shared product catalogue. If you contribute a product photo and our reviewers approve it, you grant us a licence to display that approved photo to other Crowcery users as the catalogue image for that product. We review contributed photos before they are shown to anyone else, and approved photos are displayed with your account identity removed — other users see the product image, not who uploaded it.

Beyond the above, you grant us no other rights. In particular, we don't use your content to train AI models, and we don't share it outside Crowcery — we do not contribute your photos to any third-party or open database. If we ever offer that, it would be a separate, clearly-labelled, optional choice you would have to opt into; until then it does not happen. We share with service providers only as listed in the Privacy Policy.

6. Fees

The Phase 1 private beta is free. If and when a paid subscription tier becomes available, the price and terms will be shown before you subscribe, and subscriptions will be handled by Google Play Billing under Google's terms. We will not start charging your existing beta account without explicit opt-in.

7. Service changes and termination

We may modify, suspend, or discontinue the service at any time, with or without notice. We will try to give reasonable notice for material changes.
We may suspend or terminate your access if we believe you've violated these terms or if required by law. In most cases we will email first and give you a chance to fix the issue.
You can terminate at any time by deleting your account from the Account page. Your data is erased within 7 days, with one exception: product photos you contributed that were approved as shared catalogue images are kept as part of the catalogue, with your account identity permanently removed from them. Everything else — your receipts, account record, and any photos not approved as catalogue images — is erased. See the Privacy Policy.

8. No warranty

The service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, availability, or non-infringement. Parsed data may contain errors. Don't rely on Crowcery as your system of record.

9. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Marton Hever is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, profits, or revenue, arising out of or in connection with your use of the service. Our total aggregate liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the greater of (a) CAD $10 or (b) the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim. Nothing in this section limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.

10. Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from claims arising out of your violation of these terms or your misuse of the service, including claims that your uploaded content infringes someone else's rights.

11. Privacy

Your use of the service is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which explains what we collect, why, where it's stored, and your rights.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Nova Scotia and the federal laws of Canada applicable in that province. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these terms is subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Nova Scotia, Canada, except where mandatory consumer-protection laws in your jurisdiction say otherwise.

13. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. If the changes are material we will update the "last updated" date and, where appropriate, notify you in-app or by email. Your continued use of the service after a change means you accept the revised terms; if you don't, delete your account. As the service matures out of beta, data-processing locations may be repatriated to Canadian regions; the Privacy Policy is the authoritative source on where your data is processed at any given time.
